Introduction The topic that I choose to do was Media and Body Image/Perception of Beauty. I chose this issue as my fire project because there are many issues involving teen girls who do not like the way they look. Some hate their bodies and wish they had the same type of body as the models or actresses that come on television. “I wish I had that body, but I can’t have it because I’m too fat! I look horrible! I’m ugly! I hate my body, I hate myself. Many girls or teenager girls repeat this every single time they look at themselves in the mirror. This is something I’m very passionate because I see how many girls suffer because they don’t have the “perfect body.” Yet, what is the perfect body? Is it only being really skinny like the models in Victoria’s secret? Are the only girls who are beautiful the ones with “perfect” bodies? This topic makes me passionate to talk about because I don’t only see it upon friends I have, but I have actually experienced myself. This issue matters so much because of the girls that fall into depression and many of them commit suicide and some become anorexic or bulimic. These are diseases that can lead to death. This issue relates to me because of my body image. I used to hate myself and think I wasn’t pretty enough. This thinking led me to fall into a depression and begin thinking many bad thoughts. This is a very interesting topic and also very important for others to learn about because many people have lost people that they love because of the way they will feel about themselves. Why keep letting girls get lost or categorized as ugly or fat based on body image? Why keep losing someone who means so much over body image? There’s a need of change!
